Richard Schoonover, a beloved father, friend, and passionate snowmobiling enthusiast, passed away peacefully in his home on December 18, 2024, at the age of 94 in Donnelly, Idaho. Born on November 5, 1930, in Interior, South Dakota, Richard lived a life full of adventure, love, and cherished memories.
A proud veteran, Richard served in the Navy during the Korean War, demonstrating his commitment to service and country. After his military career, he worked at Bell Telephone Company from 1957 to 1984, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues. He was also an active member of a pit crew at Meridian Speedway, where he enjoyed the thrill of racing. Richard had a fun passion for unique vehicles, which included fascinating cars, hovercrafts, six-wheeled rovers, and boats. His love for the outdoors extended to winters spent snowmobiling and summers on the lake, where he created countless memories with family and friends. Richard also enjoyed playing bridge, watching mystery TV shows, reading Louis L’Amour western novels, and listening to the music of Marty Robbins. On November 2, 1957, Richard married the love of his life, Roberta Luella Thomas. Together, they built a wonderful family and a lifetime of fond memories.
He is survived by his son, Tom, his daughter Shannon and her husband Greg, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta and son, Tim.
Richard's legacy lives on through his family and friends who will forever remember his kind spirit, infectious laughter, and zest for life.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of their choice in Richard's memory.
