Hester Genevieve Thorburn

On December 24, 2018, in the tender respectful and loving care of McCall Hospital on Christmas Eve, Hester Genevieve Thorburn, 98 years old, passed from this earth. I am sure it was a grand welcoming and a congratulations for a life well lived.

Hester was born March 28,1920 in Tell City, Indiana. She lived there until age six. In 1926 her family moved to Chicago giving the family more opportunities. Hester remained in Chicago where she attended school and graduated in June 1937 from Stienmetz High School.

Early employment was with Continental Assurance Co.

Hester married James Thorburn in 1941 and their marriage lasted 51 years.  These early years of marriage were spent in Chicago and were blessed with a son and daughter.

In the year 1945 Hester and family moved to San Diego, CA, The family was blessed again with two more sons and a daughter. Life was good in the many years they lived there. Hester was employed for over 19 years at the Handyman Corporate offices, until her retirement.

Hester made many lifelong friends and cared lovingly for her family. Her family grew with marriages of her children, and then blessed with the pure joy of grandchildren and great grandchildren!

In 1996 Hester moved to McCall, ID to be near her daughter and family. Hester loved this town, the people in it and the beautiful scenery. She participated in Payette Lakes Progressive Club, Bible studies, volunteered at the Hospital thrift store, enjoyed watching her grandsons play in McCall Vandals games, joining in all family celebrations, traveling and going out to eat!

Hester’s hobbies and interests included sports, especially baseball where The CUBS and Padres ruled supreme and the football teams of the  San Diego Chargers and Notre Dam. She could name players and stats. Hester was an avid newspaper reader and did many crossword puzzles daily. At the top of any enjoyment was family, friends and animals especially her beloved dog pals!

Hester was preceded in death by her parents, Husband James(Jim), sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Elmer Miller, Kathryn and Byron Schmook, two sons, James (Mackie) and wife Mary, Thomas Lynn,  and a daughter Diane and husband David Davault,  Two granddaughters, Shawn Thorburn, Heather Tierney, one great granddaughter Amaya Louise Swain.

Hester is survived by:

Children: son,Robert (Debi) Thorburn, Whitmore CA, daughter, Kathy (Gary) Swain, McCall, ID

Grandchildren:  Doug Davault (Dr. Clark McDonald) Boise ID,  Geoff Davault Vancouver  WA, Joshua Thorburn  Imperial Beach CA, Jason (Ivy) Thorburn  Durango CO. , Clint (Sarah) Swain, McCall ID and Brandon (Sierra) Swain, McCall ID

Great Grandchildren: Hillary Davault, Portland OR, Shane Tierney, WA  Lindsay, Colin Thorburn,  Durango CO,   Ashley, Zachary Thorburn, OR,

Ayden, Macie, Ember and Makayla Swain, McCall ID.

Numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
