Bernard (Barney) S. Conner
Bernard S. Conner, 98, died peacefully at Grace Care Center, Meridian on January 19, 2014. He was born February 5, 1915 outside of Burwell, Nebraska to Thomas and Gladys Conner. After a childhood on the Nebraska sand hill farm, Barney came to Idaho in 1936. He initially worked on various farms, and then went to work for Boise Payette Lumber Company in 1943. He retired from J I Morgan Logging in 1980. Barney married Lavina L. Mansell on December 24, 1942. They made their home in New Meadows and raised two daughters and a son. After retirement, they became snowbirds and traveled around the southwest for the next twenty-one years. Barney was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He had a strong work ethic, outstanding character, and witty sense of humor. Barney leaves behind to mourn his passing his wife of 71 years, Lavina, daughters Barbara (Ernie) Dunbar of Austin, TX, Beverly (Dan Phelps) Carlin of Boise, and Bob (Gretchen Marineau) Conner of New Meadows, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, 3 sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and an infant son. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church in New Meadows. The family requests no flowers. In accordance with Barney’s wishes, blue jeans and western wear are appropriate attire for the funeral.
